Christians in Philippi were having a hard time. They had committed their lives to Jesus, but faced threats of persecution. They wanted to walk by faith, but the problems of everyday life continued. Paul, writing to these believers from prison, certainly understood what it was like to have to face the challenges of life. Instead of focusing on his problems, Paul pointed to the powerful undercurrents of joy, peace and hope that are at work in the lives of those who belong to Jesus. There is a Gospel momentum at work in the lives of believers. A power that can push us through the setbacks and stresses of life.
