Spiritual Formation Ministry
If we begin by looking at each word in the phrase “Spiritual Formation” its true meaning becomes very clear.
“Spirit” is translated from pneuma meaning breath, wind, spirit, soul. It is one of God’s greatest gifts to humanity. “The body without the SPIRIT is dead” (James 2:26). The origin of "spirit" (to breathe) reminds us that spirituality is not an optional extra for the very religious. It is at the very core of what it means to be human.
“Form” is translated from morphoo meaning to mold, to sculpt, to build as God works to shape our inner lives. “My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is FORMED in you” (Gal 4:19).
Spiritual formation is not an event, a retreat, a book or a class. It is a life-long process of internal change that takes place in solitude, community and service. It is God’s work but requires my participation.
