Wernes & Maria Tobar in Antigua, Guatemala (Central America)

Wernes Tobar was born and raised in Ahuachapan, El Salvador.  He attended the Biblical Institute of Central America (BICA), as holds a BS in Science & Math.  Prior to coming to Guatemala, Wernes served as a Preacher at the Church of Christ in Ahuachapan, El Salvador 2008 -10 and did mission work in Palmares, Costa Rica from 2011-2014.  He moved to Guatemala in 2014 to help with the Antigua Church of Christ. In 2015, Wernes took over as the senior minister there.

As the senior minister in Antigua, Wernes has done an amazing job leading and growing the congregation. The church decided to move to Jocotenango in 2023 (just outside of Antigua), which had a fantastic impact.  This beneficial decision has helped the church continue to grow.  He has been very proactive in providing programs for the church and community: marriage seminars, youth camps, conferences, womens’ seminars, and more.  Wernes is known as the type of tireless leader who has been known to preach a sermon, and then drive 5 hours to visit a sick member.  Wernes and his wife, Maria, married in 2011 and they have 1 daughter, Tiara, who was born in 2014.

Wernes works hand-in-hand with Prestoncrest’s other missionaries in Guatemala, Simeon Sapon and Adan Benavente, in helping coordinate Prestoncrest’s annual medical mission trip.
