Clyde & Gwen Antwine: Helpers in Missions (H.I.M.) at Oklahoma Christian University

Clyde and Gwen Antwine are veterans of the mission field in Europe.  After Clyde received his B.A. in Bible from ACU, he and Gwen went to Europe to minister in Germany and Switzerland. After returning from the mission field, he returned to the states and earned his M.A. in German from Portland State University. Clyde now serves as Director of the Helpers in Missions (H.I.M.) program and is a member of the faculty at Oklahoma Christian.

The H.I.M. program provides young people with the opportunity to spread the Gospel with missionaries already in the field. Their mission is to further the work of Christ in various areas by providing help to those in the mission field. They provide young adults with in-the-field training in Christian service, equipping them for further works of service at home and abroad. They encourage them to consider returning to the mission field following their experience as a “Helper.”

Clyde’s focus with H.I.M. is on recruiting, training and mentoring workers for foreign missions.  It begins with one-on-one meetings. If the fit seems right, candidates meet with the 8-member H.I.M. Committee, made up of OC faculty from a variety of areas. Approved candidates undergo psychological tests, administered by a psychology professor on campus. As soon as a group is formed, weekly training begins.

In addition to working with HIM and monitoring missionaries in the field, Clyde and Gwen make annual trips to Germany and Switzerland to encourage the local churches and missionaries.
