Work on Your Words

Work on Your Words

In this message from our Street Smarts series, Preaching Minister Gordon Dabbs, Ph.D., reminds us that words are never “just words.” Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue can bring death or life,” and every day our words are shaping our relationships, our homes, our church, and even our own hearts.

Words can wound or heal. They can tear down or build up. They can push people away or point them toward Jesus. In a world filled with noise, opinions, arguments, texts, posts, and quick replies, wisdom teaches us not only what to say — but when to speak, when to listen, and how to use our words with grace.

Before you speak, text, or post, ask: Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it loving? Is this the right time? Am I saying it in the right spirit?

Wise people understand that words create worlds. Let’s be people whose words sound more like Jesus.
