Heart Sisters

Heart Sisters began with the desire to give younger and older ladies an opportunity to get together monthly in homes for Bible study, prayer, fun, and mentoring. Groups enjoy food, fellowship, and time together. Original groups were launched in 2017. In 2023, new coordinators and groups enjoyed a fresh “kickoff” as this ministry was officially “rebooted”!

Each group is made up of 2-3 mentors, along with 6-7 young ladies and meets once per month, alternating between mentors’ homes, 7-9 pm. (Exact day is flexible, and determined by the group.) Dinner is usually enjoyed (potluck, etc.) before the study begins, and great fellowship is always part of the evening (of course!)

Study, discussion and prayer (30-45 minutes) begins after dinner. Studies are chosen by the mentors in each group – there is not a set curriculum required. From time to time, some groups also enjoy an evening out together, as well (ex: dinner and a movie, Arboretum, etc.) and is up to each group!

Who are the “younger ladies”? These are the group members, usually in their 20’s-40’s. (To become part of a group, email us to let us know you’re interested!)

Who are the “mentors”? These are Prestoncrest members that have been Christians for a number years, with a wealth of life experience, and are willing to help guide and lead younger women. Each mentor has been selected by the Heart Sisters leadership team to ensure each group is led and cared for by very special ladies! (For consideration as a group mentor, contact us.)

Apples of Gold

teach what is good … and urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.” – Titus 2:3-5

Apples of Gold is a Bible study program originally conceived and authored by Betty Huizenga. This 7-week series is based on Titus 2:3-5, a scripture that serves as the cornerstone of our desire to provide a nurturing, mentoring program for young women.

Held annually since 2003, this program happens each March-April on Thursday evenings. It begins with appetizers, followed by a demonstration focusing on cooking tips and hospitality. While the meal is cooking, participants enjoy a Bible study taught by a different mentor each week. Studies include topics such as character, marriage relationships, family dynamics and hospitality. Evenings conclude with a delicious meal and “table topics.” Husbands are invited to the final gathering for a panel discussion and luau.

The series is limited to 10 young women each year that are able to commit to the 7-week series. Wives of a few of our ministers, elders, and long-time members serve as the teachers and hosts. Numerous friendships between older and younger families have been formed over the years, and 100+ young women have enjoyed learning the valuable, practical, and spiritual lessons shared during the series.
