Spiritual Formation Ministry

Spiritual Formation Ministry

If we begin by looking at each word in the phrase “Spiritual Formation” its true meaning becomes very clear.

“Spirit” is translated from pneuma meaning breath, wind, spirit, soul. It is one of God’s greatest gifts to humanity. “The body without the SPIRIT is dead” (James 2:26). The origin of “spirit” (to breathe) reminds us that spirituality is not an optional extra for the very religious. It is at the very core of what it means to be human.

“Form” is translated from morphoo meaning to mold, to sculpt, to build as God works to shape our inner lives. “My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is FORMED in you (Gal 4:19).

Spiritual formation is not an event, a retreat, a book or a class. It is a life-long process of internal change that takes place in solitude, community and service. It is God’s work but requires my participation.

While counseling primarily deals with the past and life coaching with the future, spiritual direction centers on the present moment with God. What…

Glenn Eyrie Retreats

Building upon these two relationships, those who have completed the Spiritual Journey will have the opportunity to attend yearly retreats at Glen Eyrie, Colorado, for concentrated experiences of…

A Spiritual Journey

In February of each year the heart of the Spiritual Formation Ministry begins. It is quiet and mostly unseen, but 45-50 Christians make a commitment to themselves, to each other and to God for a one year pilgrimage of faith. These 6-8 Spiritual Journey Groups each contain 5-6 Christians who agree to meet each week in the very early morning or at mid-day for 1.5 hours with Spiritual Formation Minister Bob Chisholm. They meet to discuss the inner life theme…
