Nominating
Additional
Deacons
On September 11, 2022, Prestoncrest’s Elders asked church members to call out additional deacons as our church strives to provide for many needs in ministry areas. It is their hope that a number of men who meet the qualifications will receive significant congregational nominations, approval, and support.
The Elders review the nominations, and then personally interview each prospective new deacon.
Members are asked to pray for Prestoncrest and this selection process, as they also pray for guidance to choose NEW men to nominate. Review 1 Timothy 3:8-12 and Acts 6:1-7 (provided below), keeping the deacon’s scriptural qualifications at the forefront of your mind for nominations.
Timeline for this effort:
- Sun, Sept 11: Announcement made
- Sun, Oct 2: Nominations due
- Nominations collected, interviews done by the elders
- Sun, Nov 13: Candidates presented to the congregation (listed in the bulletin)
- Sun, Nov 20: Scriptural objections (if any) due, in writing, to the elders

1 Timothy 3:8-12
Deacons, likewise, are to be men worthy of respect, sincere, not indulging in much wine, and not pursuing dishonest gain. They must keep hold of the deep truths of the faith with a clear conscience. They must first be tested; and then if there is nothing against them, let them serve as deacons. In the same way, their wives are to be women worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household well.
Acts 6:1-7
In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Grecian Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them. So the word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.
